Meet the Horses

My herd is a carefully curated mix of horses at various stages of training and experience. Some are permanent members of my program, while others will eventually find their forever homes. Each horse offers unique lessons and opportunities for growth, and together they provide a rich set of options for learning horsemanship at every level.

For established clients, limited on-site leases and partial leases may be available.

Mustang Training & Sales

One of my specialties is taming unhandled mustangs from the Bureau of Land Management, building a solid foundation, and then thoughtfully matching them with loving new homes.

My process involves at least a year of careful handling, training, and exposure to new experiences before offering these horses for sale. In addition to their own training, they work in my coaching programs, offering my students uniquely powerful experiences while themselves being exposed to a broad range of people.

Each horse is carefullly selected and trained to an exceptional standard. Through gentle and deliberate methods, they become confident, responsive, and eager partners in their work. They are priced according to their quality and training.

You can see the mustangs currently in my program below. I recommend reaching out early if you're interested in a specific horse. I do offer discounted coaching packages when you purchase one of my horses.

Sundara

2009 Bay Paint Mare

14.2 hands

As a permanent member of our program, Sundara will not be available for sale.

Sundara is kind, experienced, gentle, and wise, with a bit of a tendency to internalize stress. She is highly perceptive and sensitive, which makes her an excellent teacher.

She gently tests limits and challenges students to get clearer in their communication. She's great at teaching subtle nuance and building confidence in cues.

Gheera

2012 Black Morgan Mare

14.3 hands

As a permanent member of our program, Gheera will not be available for sale.

A black horse wearing a halter and a western saddle, standing in an arena in the mountains.

Gheera is a very special mare with whom I have a long background – I trained her dam when I was apprenticing, and purchased her from her breeder as a weanling. She is highly intelligent, motivated, and has a big sense of humor. She can put pressure on herself or get a bit distant at times.

Gheera is wonderful for helping build confidence with both ridden work and groundwork, as well as offering practice with more advanced maneuvers under saddle.

Izzy

2023 Dun Morgan Filly

As a permanent member of our program, Izzy will not be available for sale.

Izzy is Gheera's daughter, bred by me and born into my program. She is spunky, affectionate, and soulful – a gentle goofball who is exceptionally intelligent and inquisitive.

She is not yet being ridden and is used sparingly in my program at this time.

Beulah

2017 Blue Roan Tennessee Walking Horse Mare

15.3 hands

Beulah is not owned by Balance Equine and will not be available for sale.

Beulah is not owned by me, but she is used in my program occasionally with permission from her owner, and she is always a friendly ambassador.

She is an exceptionally gentle and kind mare with excellent refinement in her groundwork. She is great at teaching precision and persistence.

Beulah has a very comfortable running walk. Gaited work can help hone students' ability to identify and solve imbalances.

Lucy

2021 Bay Roan Mustang Mare

15 hands

Gathered from the Stewart Creek HMA in Wyoming (date unknown).

Lucy is not yet actively for sale, but may be available to the perfect home.

We adopted Lucy from BLM in 2024 and she is very lightly started under saddle. We’re taking her training slowly, giving her time to grow both mentally and physically.

She is beautiful and intelligent with a bold, inquisitive personality. Lucy loves learning about people. She's the type of horse who thinks about what you've shown her between sessions, and she always seems eager to show you what she's figured out.

She can get pushy, so it's important to hold gentle boundaries with Lucy. She's equal parts goofball and star pupil, and will make someone an exceptional partner.

Lucy is used in my program for groundwork and will eventually be available for ridden lessons.

Runa

2021 Red Roan Mustang Mare

15.1 hands

Gathered from the Little Colorado HMA in Wyoming on January 17th, 2022.

Runa is not yet actively for sale, but may be available to the perfect home.

We adopted Runa from BLM in 2024 and she is very lightly started under saddle. As with Lucy, we’re being careful to give her time to mature rather than rushing her training.

She is beautiful and intelligent with a reserved, considerate personality. Runa can take time to develop new relationships and requires a bit of extra awareness, as she doesn't respond well to being rushed.

Runa is a really special horse. She will challenge you and push your boundaries, but also reward your effort with her own when treated with gentleness and respect. She's a gorgeous mare with a stunning build, beautiful movement, and sweet disposition.

Although she's kind and intelligent, she will require someone who can be a confident and conscientious leader. She is not the kind of horse you can push beyond her own pace, but if you demonstrate awareness and give her space and time to mull things over, she will surprise you with her trust and curiosity.

She is used in my program for groundwork and will eventually be available for ridden lessons.

Zeus

2019 Bay Mustang Gelding

15.1 hands

Gathered from the Rock Creek Mountain HMA in Wyoming on July 7th, 2024.

Zeus will be available for sale (no earlier than summer 2026).

We adopted Zeus in 2025 and he is early in the gentling process. He is skeptical and reserved, but also very gentle and sweet.

Zeus has taken some extra time to come out of his shell, but I can tell that the wait is worth it as his personality emerges.

He has a beautiful upright and compact build, and I suspect he'll excel in collected Dressage movements.

He will be available for sale as his training progresses (no earlier than summer 2026).

Coming Soon

I have three new mustangs arriving in late 2025. More details will be added as they settle in and I get to know them better.

Hera

2017 Buckskin Mustang Mare

14.2 hands

Gathered from the Triple B HMA in Nevada on August 23rd, 2022.

Hera is a beautiful, petite mare who may also be gaited. She appears inclined to be level-headed and gentle.

She will be available for sale after one year or as appropriate, depending on how her training progresses.

Rose

2021 Chestnut Mustang Mare

15 hands

Gathered from the Sand Springs HMA in Oregon on September 11th, 2021.

Rose has striking color, markings, and movement with solid all-around potential and an apparently easygoing mind.

Rose will be available for sale after one year or as appropriate, depending on how her training progresses.

Fiona

2020 Bay Mustang Mare

14.1 hands

Gathered from the Jackson Mountains HMA in Nevada on September 28th, 2021.

Fiona is chunky and solid. I anticipate that she will become a cornerstone in my lesson program with her approachable size, gently swinging gait, and comfortable seat for bareback practice.

I don’t plan to offer Fiona for sale.

Thinking about adopting a mustang of your own?

I also offer various levels of support with selecting, adopting, gentling, and training your own mustang directly from BLM.
